Many people regard Phar Lap as the greatest racehorse ever. In his four years on the race track, Phar Lap won 37 of the 51 races in which he started, including fourteen in a row in 1930-31.

Pharlap achieved world fame after winning the Agua Caliente Handicap near Tijuana in Mexico to take his race record to an amazing 37 wins, two seconds and three thirds in 51 starts.

This property was originally the Davis Ranch. Mr. Davis was Phar Lap's trainer in the 1930's when the horse was brought to the US from Australia. Together they were a team: Davis with the gentle hand of a wonderful trainer and Phar Lap with a heart of gold born to run! He was winning races all over.

Through the years after Mr. Davis died parcels of the ranch were sold and Oakdell Ranch development was built. For many years after our family moved in (30 years ago) Mrs. Davis, widowed, continued to live in the old family home. Horses were boarded there and the neighborhood children were welcome to have our annual Easter Egg hunt on the property.

About 19 or 20 years ago, Mrs. Davis passed away. The family sold off the ranch and the property was subdivided. Hence, homes built on the actual ranch house grounds currently occupy what has been named Oakleaf Place and Oakleaf Court.
